Social Investment

We care about our communities and environment.

We invest in our communities and constantly evaluate our activities to ensure that we remain socially responsible and environmentally conscious.

Glacier’s community support is broadened annually with a range of initiatives supporting various organisations. The organisations we support include those that care for and protect children in need, assist in poverty alleviation, and relieve the suffering of animals.

Our head office in Tyger Valley is an energy- and resource-efficient building incorporating design, construction and operational practices that reduce and eliminate negative impacts on the environment. The progressive building has been awarded four stars by the Green Building Council of South Africa.

Employment Equity

We believe that everyone has the right to dignity, respect and to realising their potential.

The foundation for sustainable growth and competitive advantage rests on the creation of an equitable working environment and therefore transformation is a big priority for us. Our employees are encouraged and empowered to take ownership of their careers and we offer development opportunities and continuous training.

We are committed to successfully implementing employment equity and support the Sanlam Group's employment equity initiatives. We do this in two ways:

  1. Through our Employment Equity Forum
  2. Making use of a broad-based black economic empowerment (BBBEE) policy

Employment equity forum

We make every effort to ensure that our work environment is free of all forms of unfair discrimination. We provide equal opportunities for all our employees and do everything we can to encourage diversity to improve productivity.

Our Employment Equity Forum, made up of employees chosen by their colleagues, supports our business and human resources strategy, including the attraction and retention of a competent, diverse workforce and to ensure compliance with the Employment Equity Act.

Broad-based black economic empowerment

We make use of a broad-based black economic empowerment (BBBEE) policy and have aligned ourselves with the DTI Codes of Good Practice (guidelines on employment equity).

We focus on setting targets for:

  • Equal representation at board, senior and junior management levels
  • Skills development
  • Ownership and procurement
